Background of the Study
Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have become a key strategy for improving healthcare service delivery, particularly in low-resource settings. In Nigeria, PPPs involve collaboration between government agencies and private sector entities to enhance healthcare financing, infrastructure, and service provision. The rationale behind PPPs is to leverage private sector efficiency, innovation, and investment capacity to complement government efforts in healthcare management.
Jigawa State, like many other states in Nigeria, faces challenges in healthcare service delivery, including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and workforce shortages. To address these challenges, the state has engaged in various PPP initiatives, such as outsourcing hospital management, collaborating with private healthcare providers, and partnering with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to improve healthcare access.
This study aims to investigate the effect of public-private partnerships on healthcare service management in Jigawa State, assessing their effectiveness, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the adoption of PPPs in healthcare service management, Jigawa State continues to experience challenges such as inadequate access to quality healthcare, inefficiencies in service delivery, and financial constraints. While PPPs have the potential to improve healthcare outcomes, concerns about accountability, unequal access, and the sustainability of such partnerships persist.
If these challenges are not addressed, the benefits of PPPs in healthcare service delivery may not be fully realized, and the state's healthcare system may continue to struggle. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of PPPs in healthcare management and explore strategies to optimize their impact.
